What is Stainless Steel 904L Plate?

Stainless Steel 904L plate is a high-alloy, low-carbon austenitic stainless steel known for its outstanding corrosion resistance. Chemical composition consists of 19–23% chromium, 23–28% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum and 1–2% copper, with a maximum 0.020% carbon. The combination makes the material pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking resistant. Mechanically, 904L plates provide tensile strength of 485 MPa, yield strength of 275 MPa, and 20% elongation, with a high melting point of 1510°C.The density of 7.95 g/cm³ provides outstanding structural stability against high pressure and temperature.

SS 904L is usually referred by its other names EN 1.4539 or X1NiCrMoCu25-20-5. It’s particularly known for superior performance in acid conditions and is broadly applied in the chemical, petrochemical, and marine sectors.
