Inconel 718

Inconel 718

Inconel 718 is a nickel-ferrous-chromium-based superalloy designed to deliver strength at high temperatures up to 650°C. It combines toughness, weldability, and resistance to stress rupture. The alloy is age-hardenable, which makes it easy to fabricate into complex shapes without losing mechanical integrity. Inconel 718 has a perfectly balanced composition, with 50-55% nickel (with cobalt) forming the corrosion-resistant matrix, 17-21% chromium enhancing oxidation resistance, and niobium and molybdenum strengthening the alloy against creep and fatigue. Iron forms the balance and adds toughness, while small amounts of titanium and aluminum improve hardness through precipitation hardening. Even trace levels of elements like carbon, manganese, and copper affect the way this alloy handles forming and machining.

Parag Metals supplies this high-performance alloy to industries that demand durability under extreme conditions. The most effective process for alloy 718 involves solution annealing at 1700–1850°F, followed by rapid cooling usually in water. Precipitation hardening is then carried out at 1325°F for eight hours, followed by furnace cooling to 1150°F, holding for another 18 hours and then air cooling. This treatment encourages the formation of nickel-aluminum-titanium-niobium phases, which improve strength and rupture life while maintaining ductility. These methods ensure that Inconel 718 mechanical properties remain stable even under severe stress, and during a long service life, making it suitable for essential aerospace and power applications.

The Inconel 718 density is about 0.296 lb/in³ in the annealed condition and slightly higher when aged. Its melting point is between 2300-2437°F (1260-1336°C), which is sufficient for turbine blades, jet engines, and reactor components. The alloy has good creep resistance and thermal stability. Combined with a favorable Inconel 718 hardness and thermal conductivity, it can handle both sustained heat and sudden thermal cycling without losing strength. This unique mix of stability, strength and corrosion resistance makes it stand out among high-temperature alloys.

Inconel 718 is supplied in many forms, such as sheets, plates, rods, bars and forged parts. It has a high tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and excellent weldability. Common Inconel 718 uses range from aerospace engine components, gas turbines, and nuclear reactors to oilfield equipment and chemical processing units. It is trusted where failure is not an option. As one of the leading Inconel 718 suppliers in India, we ensure consistent quality and availability for industries that demand precision and reliability.
